Greenville, MI Pest Control
If you live in or around Greenville and you suspect a pest infestation, Terminix of West Michigan will send out a licensed technician to inspect your property free of charge. However, it's good to know your enemies beforehand, especially the two most common: the carpenter ant and the subterranean termite.
These are among the largest ants you'll find in West Michigan, and with their distinct black and dark red appearance, they're not hard to spot. In the spring, when they swarm (that is, build a new colony), they will develop winged ants. Carpenter ants like to nest in moist wood, and the tunnels they create in it have a smooth, sandpapered appearance that fully justifies their name. With them, there is no preference between eating hard and soft spots or going along or against the grain. A telltale sign of their presence is the sawdust that naturally piles up as they burrow into the wood.
Carpenter ants can invade your kitchen or your picnic table for sugary foods and drinks, and they can dwell in the bathroom under tubs and sinks. If you have rain gutters that drain too close to your home, that area may attract these ants. Though they're most active in the spring and summer, their nests often survive through the winter.
The subterranean termite is a pest that's active year-round, and it swarms in the spring like the carpenter ant. Like carpenter ants, these termites like moist wood, but they live deep underground and only tunnel up to forage. If you have walls, beams, or structures in your basement or crawl space that come in contact with the soil, these are prime targets. Termites will especially take to materials like chipboard and plywood. They only eat the soft, light-colored parts of wood, and they go along the grain.
You may not be able to spot these pests alone, but you'll likely find discarded wings on the floor if they have swarmed to another area. Some people will hear a rustling behind their walls. This is evidence of a full-on infestation. It's always good to catch these termites early because they will eventually hollow out your wood, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.
General Pest Control
Terminix of West Michigan has been in business for over 60 years, so we've been able to hone our methods of pest removal. We can use a baiting system for both subterranean termites and carpenter ants. These pests will take food that's specially prepared with slow-acting insecticides, share it with their colony, and eventually kill it off. The Terminix® Termite Baiting System we use can be particularly effective. The bait goes under the soil, keeping termites from foraging above ground.
Our team tackles a range of other pests, including bedbugs, spiders, mosquitoes, rodents, and wildlife. We'll spray our high-quality insecticides on flying insects, but with wildlife, we'll trap them when possible and use extermination only as a last resort.
Call us today for that free inspection, and we'll come out to your property no matter where you are in Greenville.
